Newborn Pics!

Our sweet friend April at Talkstory Photography (talkstoryphotography.blogspot.com) took some newborn pictures of our little Kenna Kenna Kennster.

McKenna cooperated by sleeping the whole time. Our sweet little girl turned into a bit of a monster the second week of her life. She was fussy and crying all the time.  We took her into the pediatrician for her two week check-up and we found out the problem.  She hadn't gained weight.  She was only up one ounce from her two day weight, and still wasn't up to her birth weight.  She hadn't pooped in 12 days.  She was starving!

The doctor said she couldn't process breast milk, and her body didn't have any nutrients to pass on.  I was allergic to breast milk as well, so he had us switch her to soy.  What a huge difference!

The first time we gave her soy she just sat and stared for an hour and a half.  She was so happy to finally be full.

She gained a pound in the next two weeks, so soy is working!  We are so happy to have our sweet McKenna back. It is nice that all the boys get to have the chance to feed her.  She is much happier and so are we.

McKenna Eleanor

She's finally here! McKenna Eleanor was born on Saturday, February 8th. She was 19 inches long, and weighed 7 pounds, 4 ounces.  She is our smallest baby.  I was at a four and one hundred percent effaced, so Dr. Erickson said we could induce at 39 weeks.  She was due Valentine's Day.  All of our babies have been due the 14th, and born on the 18th.  This was my hardest pregnancy so I did not want to wait another 10 days!

Dr. Chase was able to deliver McKenna.  He was able to do all parts of the delivery, although Dr. Erickson was available if necessary.  I made it through most of labor with no epidural, but had to get it when I reached an 8--the pitocin contractions were coming too fast. Once my water broke I wasn't able to get any break.  I had to get two epidural injections to reach the pain, my labor was going too fast for the drugs to reach it.  After the second life was lovely.  I was almost asleep when an hour later the Dr. came in to tell me to push.  Two pushes later...

The boys have been more involved than I thought they would be.  Logan has wanted to help feed, change and bathe her.  McKay is less interested, although he is always willing to help if I ask.  They have been great about grabbing diapers, wipes and binkies if I need them.

Loren got to name her, I'm not really sure where McKenna came from.  Eleanor is a combination of my idol, Eleanor Roosevelt, and Loren's Mom, Lenore. She has strong women to emulate!  McKenna has some shallow dimples, and is mostly a sweet, if demanding, princess.  She has very long toes, I usually call her Princess Monkey Toes. We sure do love her!
